Case in point: mulberry bags Right now, as foretold at the S/S shows back in September, the are big. There are flares in Sportsgirl, floral, floaty dresses abound and if you not wearing clogs, you a turkey. Those who care to follow through with the trend in star wars adidas their makeup ( are risking public outrage with disco-inspired looks, from exciting, colourful, glitter-flecked eyes and high-voltage, high-gloss lips, ala Studio 54. It bright and bold and it a lot of fun, for those daring enough to give it a spin on the record player that is their face and hair.
It cheek-skimming (TWIGGY-esque) slicked down fringes, liner and falsies and blocky, high-necked jeremy scott wings shoes dresses. (Alberta Ferreti.)
It furry cap-hats, JEAN SHRIMPTON hemlines and what makeup artist Make-up artist WENDY ROWE called a modern take on sixties makeup, most notably the **** lipstick which was pressed into lips rather than caked on (as was the preferred technique of that time). (Burberry.)
It all too much. I overwhelmed. I just getting my claws into 1972 and now 1965 wants in.
Trends don care. If you can keep up, then take your hairbrush and scram.
For now, I recommend that all WE worry about is which platforms to wear with our flares, and which pussybow blouse we should wear with our gold hotpants and which glittery eyeliner will best set off our false lashes.
My injection of seventies makeup has come in the way of updating my matte bright lip to one that is shiny and jubilant and gorgeous, befriending coloured shadow again after a LONG hiatus (largely thanks to MAC brand new Peacock collection the Mega Metal Shadow in Ego a silky, shimmering green teamed with the Kissable LipColor in So Vain, an opaque pink creme gloss which is so LIGHT and so CREAMY and so GROWN UP, I shivered with delight when it arrived is a bit of a triumph, I have to say.)
I look very forward to A-line smock dresses with low heels in citrus shades and excessive eye liner eventually, but right now, I am happy to enjoy some disco fever
But now, at the A/W shows, we seeing the sixties waltz in. Saw it at DKNY. Herve Leger. Kate Spade. Anna Sui. Burberry. Alberta Ferreti.
It bright dresses and blocky hair with full fringes and the classic white and black liner. (Anna Sui.)
And it Scooby Doo cutie-pie chic, with bold colours and thick frames and lined eyes and orange lips and blunt hair. (Kate Spade.)
We had our obsession (Prada Mad Men style frocks and Louis Vuitton delectable chignons) two seasons back, and before that it was an ode to the with Alexander Wang and his midriffs and side plaits, and Marc Jacobs with his big pink hair bows. Unless we can reference a decade, we lost, it seems. Presumably the will get a run soon flapper dresses and NICOLE RICHIE style fingerwaves, ay.
